DLC not only produces an extraordinary look without influencing club performance relative to how the ball reacts, but also significantly extends the lifetime for the finish.
DLC is a hard, graphite-like, carbon-based coating with exceptional tribological properties under high loading conditions. Simply put, the finish is engineered for performance. The relatively new coating is currently used in fuel injection systems, but also has a number of other promising applications ranging from automotive to medical, down to high-end timepieces (the Space Black Apple watch uses the coating), and now golf equipment. PXG's recent durability testing has found DLC to be significantly better than anything currently available.
The process is expensive, but the results are remarkable, said PXG founder Bob Parsons. The DLC finish is rock solid and absolutely beautiful. Scotty created a distinctive new model by taking the Classic Newport head and adding a slant neck for a sleeker, less obstructed view of the ball.A sightline graces the flange for easy alignment. The mid-slant design still has the optimal 1/4 toe hang, but removing the elbow in the plumbers neck allows for better visibility of the ball and a cleaner look at setup.
